Female Fertility
While infertility can happen to anyone regardless of sex or gender, it is most commonly attributed to female-related factors. Female infertility and reproductive issues play a role in about half of all cases of couples who are unable to conceive. If you have been trying to get pregnant for a year (or six months, if over the age of 35) without success, it is recommended that you schedule an appointment with your gynecologist or a reproductive endocrinologist so that you can undergo diagnostic testing that will assess the health of your ovaries, fallopian tubes, and uterus.
Female Infertility Causes
One of the most common factors of infertility in women is age. As women get older, their ovarian reserve (the quantity and quality of eggs in the ovaries) diminishes. However, age is not the only cause of female infertility. For example, conditions such as endometriosis or polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) can have an impact on fertility in younger women as well as older.
Once a diagnosis is confirmed, your fertility doctor will work with you to develop a treatment plan designed to best suit your individual needs.
